SYMPTOMS: Off color discharge (yellowish, greenish, grayish), irritation, burning sensation
CAUSE: motile protozoan, Trichomonas vaginalis
DIAGNOSIS: Microscopic examination the vaginal discharge or culture
TREATMENT: a single dose of prescription metronidazole, 2 grams (2000 mg) at bedtime
PREVENTION: This vaginal infection can be sexually transmitted so condoms would usually prevent it. If you have this your partner should also be treated. Men often have no symptoms even if they're infected. The chance of a man being a carrier is related to the number of other partners he has and is increased if he is older or uncircumcised.
