Cause: the molluscum contagiosum virus
Symptoms: skin lesions, 2 to 5 mm, may be flesh colored, gray-white, yellow or pink. They are usually smooth, firm and raised in the center and can resemble a pimple. Sometimes they cause itching or irritation.
Complications: Usually none, mostly a cosmetic problem
Treatment: Some lesions regress spontaneously. Others persist and continue to give rise to new ones especially if they're scratched. Freezing, burning or acid treatment can eradicate lesions.
Prevention: Avoid direct contact with lesions on someone else.
