GONORRHEA

Cause: the bacteria Neiserria gonorrheae

Symptoms: Both men and women can be infected without having any sypmtoms.

If a woman does have symptoms they might include vaginal discharge or pelvic or abdominal pain. A man might have a small amount of discharge from his penis or a burning or tingling sensation with urination.

Complications: Untreated infections can cause scar tissue which can make it difficult or impossible for a woman to have children. It can also cause chronic pelvic pain.

Treatment: Early infections are easily cured with antibiotics.

Prevention: Condoms provide a high level of protection from this disease.
