Cause: the bacteria Neiserria gonorrheae
Symptoms: Both men and women can be infected without having any sypmtoms.
If a woman does have symptoms they might include vaginal discharge or pelvic or abdominal pain. A man might have a small amount of discharge from his penis or a burning or tingling sensation with urination.
Complications: Untreated infections can cause scar tissue which can make it difficult or impossible for a woman to have children. It can also cause chronic pelvic pain.
Treatment: Early infections are easily cured with antibiotics.
Prevention: Condoms provide a high level of protection from this disease.
